47.2 crore children (Census 2011) in India under the age of 18 years are put at risk directly or indirectly due to the impact of the pandemic. This represents 39% of the country's total population.
Isolated in unsafe homes, displaced, out of school, sent to work as child labourers to supplement family income, pushed into early marriage, lured into trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation, thousands of boys and girls are susceptible to physical, emotional and sexual abuse including deprivation of food and proper nutrition, neglect and lack of care and support.
The impact on these children will last a lifetime. We must prevent this devastating legacy.
World Vision India is relentlessly advocating for ending all forms of violence against children. We put our best efforts to prevent violence so no child has to experience it. We are working with survivors, strengthening the systems and services available to them to ensure they have the chance to heal, recover and enjoy equal opportunities in life. We will amplify their stories and voices.
We appreciate the Government of India for all strategic actions taken to protect the most vulnerable population, including children who need support and care. We are joining hands with the Government of India at the States and Centre in solidarity to safeguard the most vulnerable children from all forms of violence, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
