Dreams Take Flight: Kiran's Inspiring Journey to Canada

Kiran's story is pure inspiration! Growing up in Kolkata she juggled family and studies. "Having to raise three children wasn’t easy for my parents, but World Vision India supported my education and helped me discover my passion for social issues."

World Vision India's Snehadeep community project and Play for Peace programme, conducted workshops on life skills, street plays, and puppet shows which became platforms for her to find her voice.

This passion fueled the creation of "Jagran", a club Kiran co-founded to tackle child labour and women's empowerment, which performed over 100 street plays in the streets of Kolkata.

Kiran, armed with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Sociology and Anthropology from Ashoka University, landed for an interview in Montreal, Canada for a life-changing scholarship!

Against fierce competition, she aced it, becoming the ONLY South Asian chosen for the prestigious McCall MacBain Scholarship which will now enable her to pursue a Master’s degree in Canada in August.

It was an emotional moment, Kiran says. "Seeing my parents happy made it all worth it." Currently, she is a teacher and working online with Play for Peace.

Kiran encourages everyone to Dream Big which will help one work towards realising it. "Go beyond school education and books, participate in any social work and volunteer in any work because that experience teaches more than books. Give back to your community what you've learnt, that’s where the true satisfaction lies", she declares.
